ENGAGING SENSES

Enriching Life

Imagine having little to no control over how you experience the world around you. Continually frustrated, you might act out your frustrations or simply withdraw into yourself. Our sensory programs provide opportunities to express feelings, process emotions, engage the senses and accelerate learning.

Sensory Spaces

Our residents use our sensory spaces every day to relax, learn and play. Our indoor sensory room invites residents to explore, control and interact with a multi-sensory environment of music, light, color, sound, touch, visual displays, movement and games. Our outdoor sensory garden features percussion stations designed for accessibility and fun.

Music Enrichment

We use music enrichment to help residents explore emotions, express feelings, communicate non-verbally, develop motor skills and feel a sense of connection. Music enrichment takes a variety of forms, including having a staff member play the guitar, helping residents play percussion instruments, singalongs and move to the music activities.

Outdoor Activities

We love spending time outdoors when the weather's nice. There are tree-shaded paths for gentle strolls and wheelchair-accessible swings for safe, satisfying rides. Residents take pleasure in tending the many flower beds and watching their garden grow. A sheltered picnic area is a popular spot for musical performances and dining al fresco. Residents also enjoy going on outings to museums, parks and community events.

Indoor Activities

Our calendar is full of activities designed to improve motor skills, encourage teamwork and put a smile on residents' faces. Parachute play, basketball, balloon toss, Connect Four and card games are just a few examples. Painting, chalk art and scrapbooking create avenues for expression, connection and building self-esteem.

Absolutely love WLCH!! Our son has been there 10 years and he is so happy. Brandon is thriving and is very well taken care of. The staff is always friendly. Love how they take the kids on many different activities. The home is very clean. You can feel the love the staff has for the residents. We consider the staff our extended family. They are angels in disguise, and we appreciate what they do. We love each and every one of them!! We can't thank them enough for what they do for our son.  Everyone is always so helpful.
