Located in Loves Park, Illinois, our not-for-profit organization provides compassionate care to those with severe and profound intellectual disabilities through our residential nursing care program, adult day training program and our approved non-public school.

Quality and excellence are hallmarks of our services. Our school provides onsite educational services with Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) while our Day Training Services focus on active treatment and therapeutic interventions to engage each individual in their environment.

We are licensed as a Medically Complex Facility for Persons with Developmental Disabilities (MC/DD) by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Since 1971, Walter Lawson Children's Home has provided loving and compassionate care, learning programs and high-quality living opportunities. Our programs and services are designed to meet the needs of children with medically complex and intellectual developmental disabilities, empowering them to achieve their fullest potential and highest quality of life.

Walter Lawson has approximately 100 full- and 23 part-time staff members that include direct support professionals, medical professionals, educators and administrative personnel.

Walter Lawson serves more than 85 children and adults in our residential program coming from all over the state of Illinois and neighboring states.

Yes! We offer regular tours for individuals and groups where you can see firsthand the miracles that happen every day at Walter Lawson. Please call us at 815-633-6636 to schedule.

Family visits are not only permitted, they’re encouraged. Most of our residents have families that visit often. In cases where distance makes travel cumbersome, we offer virtual visits.

In addition to your prayers, we need your financial support and the gift of your time and talents. We can also provide you with a Wish List of specific resident needs.

The Walter Lawson Home is heaven on earth for families with disabled children and adults. Our family has been involved with this special place for over 30 years and love all the staff and administrators. The care and devotion given to our disabled loved ones is wonderful and overwhelmingly kind.
